bio: a bit of a biography. i have practiced yoga and meditation at different points of my life. my most recent practice has been pretty consistent since 1999. i practice iyengar yoga. i certainly do not consider myself an expert, though it is a topic i take very seriously and have studied. i am not a yoga teacher, although, i have filled in for my teacher on a few occassions. i am keeping this yoga blog for a number or reasons. first of all, to experiment with a different style of blogging, next, in a hope it will enrich my practice - by focusing my reading and by keeping my focus on my daily practice - on and off the mat, and lastly, in an attempt to provide a resource for new and experienced yoga practitioners - a resource that will contain links to what i find interesting, informative, etc., about yoga admittedly, filtered through my own biases. i keep another weblog _monk in case you are interested in the more mundane events of my life, or a potpourri of random thoughts.

restorative yoga resources

i had a very physical day today, which was great as tomorrow is the first day back in class (i teach at a community college) and i always get a bit anxious on the first day. anyhow today we went sledding in the cold, and started painting our bedroom...and given i was a bit sore from yesterday's class (still not quite back into the groove), i was (and am) a real tired boy...

wasn't planning on doing yoga - but was just kinda laying around the living room listening to louis armstrong, and just kinda naturally evolved into some restoratives - supta baddhakonasana - viparita karani, padmasana - also did a bit of seated meditation. felt great - still feel tired and a bit sore but relaxed.

YogaButt-a fitness program focusing on gluteus, abdominal & back muscle strength

i can think of no better indication of everything wrong with yoga in the usa than the fact that the term, "YogaButt™", has been trademarked.

in my yoga class today, people were conversing during a restoratve pose. perhaps i'm an old crabby guy who ought to not worry about what other folks are doing, but imho, if you are in a yoga pose and having a conversation - you are not doing yoga, you are chatting.

any thoughts?
